Then on October 1, 2010 I entered the early stages of labor. Dad and Uncle Hap were so excited they went to celebrate. Around 5 pm Dad texts me to see how I'm feeling and to tell me that they were a little tipsy. Then a couple hours later again to tell me he was crashing at Haps. About another hour later at 9:25 pm my water broke. I call my dad and tell him, and then, staying true to his character, he asks me "Are you sure your ready for this?" LOL I'm thinking "really? Is this really the best time to be asking me this question." 12 and a half LONG painful hours later Dad, now Grampa, finally got to meet his new little buddy. And it was love at first sight. Grampa wasted no time and got right to telling Benjo lots of stories.
They are so funny together. My dad was the first person he gave a real smile to. He cant help but smile every time he looks at his silly Grampa, and gets so excited when Grampa walks though the door. My favorite is when he wakes up from a nap and sees his Grampa. First he is shocked and then he is the happiest little boy ever.
I love watching my Dad with him. In my whole life I don't think I have ever heard my Dad giggle as much as he has in the last 6 months. He is so proud of his little boy. I think part of it is finally having a son to do man things with, like peeing on things, or scratching, playing with tractors, you know manly things. You know when you have a proud Grampa on your hands when his main concern when pouring the sidewalks at his house is weather they are wide enough for Benjo and any future grand babies to ride bikes and pass each other.
The bond that they have is so amazing. I can remember the love and admiration I had for my Grandfathers growing up, and it makes my heart sing to watch my son and my father grow closer and closer ever day.
