Benjo and Grampa, A Love Story...

I believe it was the end of February 2010 when I told my Dad I was pregnant. His first reaction was the obvious response of a father, beads of sweat on his brow, face turning green. I guess telling him in Barnes and Noble wasn't the greatest idea. But after he took a minute and walked around dear old Dad was all smiles about being a Grampa! In fact he was so excited we had to go celebrate with a burger from Morries.

Then on October 1, 2010 I entered the early stages of labor. Dad and Uncle Hap were so excited they went to celebrate. Around 5 pm Dad texts me to see how I'm feeling and to tell me that they were a little tipsy. Then a couple hours later again to tell me he was crashing at Haps. About another hour later at 9:25 pm my water broke. I call my dad and tell him, and then, staying true to his character, he asks me "Are you sure your ready for this?" LOL  I'm thinking "really? Is this really the best time to be asking me this question." 12 and a half LONG painful hours later Dad, now Grampa, finally got to meet his new little buddy. And it was love at first sight. Grampa wasted no time and got right to telling Benjo lots of stories.

They are so funny together. My dad was the first person he gave a real smile to. He cant help but smile every time he looks at his silly Grampa,  and gets so excited when Grampa walks though the door. My favorite is when he wakes up from a nap and sees his Grampa. First he is shocked and then he is the happiest little boy ever.

I love watching my Dad with him. In my whole life I don't think I have ever heard my Dad giggle as much as he has in the last 6 months. He is so proud of his little boy. I think part of it is finally having a son to do man things with, like peeing on things, or scratching, playing with tractors, you know manly things. You know when you have a proud Grampa on your hands when his main concern when pouring the sidewalks at his house is weather they are wide enough for Benjo and any future grand babies to ride bikes and pass each other.

The bond that they have is so amazing. I can remember the love and admiration I had for my Grandfathers growing up, and it makes my heart sing to watch my son and my father grow closer and closer ever day.

6 months already?!?

It's hard for me to believe that it was just a year ago that we were still adjusting to the surprise of having a little Coffey bean on the way. At the time those nine months dragged on so slow. I felt that the big day would never come.

Then that crazy October night was here. Nice and clean, just out of the shower, fresh cozy jammies I proceeded to crawl my HUGE prego butt into my bed to escape once again to Hogwarts Castle with my good friends Harry, Ron, and Hermione. That is when I felt the gush. At first I'm thinking to myself, "WTF I just went pee!?", then the next gush.  I exclaimed "OH SHIT" and power waddled into the living room with a towel between my legs, where Ty and "Unkey J" are playing video games and working on polishing off a case of beer. Ill never forget the confused drunken look they both gave me, almost as priceless as J's face when I gasped out that my water had just broken. Poor J, he was at such a loss as to what he should do. He looked at Ty asking " What do I do? Should I come with?" LOL he went home to wait for the call... So after hours and hours of the hardest work Ive ever done he was here. My Benjo.

Its so funny to watch him and see how much  "Tink n' Ty" comes out of him. He is such a peaceful sweet soul just like his daddy, but when the kid is all hyped up, LOOK OUT! He gets the same impish smile throughout his whole little face and you can see his momma busting out like fists of furry. When he gets bigger I'm going to have to be careful since my little big beast is already almost half my hight! Benjo is such a perfect blend of our families. Some days he looks like Ty, some like me, and when he's being crazy he looks just like Grampa Bill. Hes got the same crystal blue eyes as my mom, my aunt, and my Grandpa Bradford and the Coffey family dimples.

Its a total trip to me that he is already 6 months old, especially considering how it felt like it took forever and a day for him to get here!  Now it feels like its gone way, way too fast. In 6 more months he will already be a year! Duh obviously! I'm so excited for our adventures to come!
